DIY Valentine | Tic-Tac-Toe Board

   DIY Valentine | Tic-Tac-Toe Board

We seriously can’t believe it, but it’s already time to start thinking about Valentine’s Day. We know Valentine’s Day is typically passed off as a romantic holiday, but to be honest, it’s way more fun with kids. Kiddos LOVE Valentine’s Day. I mean, think back to Februarys past in elementary school; designing and crafting your “mailbox” for all your friends to toss in Valentine’s cards at school. If you’re anything like us, picking out your Valentine’s cards was very important business! You didn’t want to have the same cards as anyone else.

We thought it would be fun to give you guys a simple, inexpensive craft idea to replace the run-of-the-mill Valentine’s cards for your kiddo’s friends at school.

Here’s what you’ll need (All of these items were found at the craft store):

  • Muslin cloth bags
  • heart-shaped wood chips
  • Letter stamp set
  • Red, pink or black inkpad
  • A fine-tipped, red marker (optional)

step 1 – First, lay out the muslin bags on a flat surface. Draw two horizontal lines and two vertical lines in the center of the bag creating a tic-tac-toe board. To make the lines perfectly straight, use any straight edge you have around the house. Many have made this same craft by putting an actual tic-tac-toe grid inside the bag with the playing chips, but we decided to create ours using less pieces by drawing it straight on the backside of the bag. Either way works great!

step 2 – Next, use your tiny letter stamps to create your valentine’s message on the front of the bag. We stamped, “Tic-Tac-Toe, XOXO.” Get the kids involved with this step for a personal, creative touch.

step 3 – Use the letter stamps and the red stamp pad to press the letters onto the wooden playing chips.

step 4 – OPTIONAL | Use your marker to draw a little heart at the bottom, and stamp your kiddo’s name beside it so their friends know who it’s from.

step 5- After you have decorated the bags, enjoy a fun game of tic-tac-toe with your little ones!

These little bags would also make fun party favors!

These little Tic-Tac-Toe games make a much more interactive Valentine’s cards than most. How fun for the kids to pull these little games out of their backpacks and play a round of Tic-Tac-Toe with their friends at recess, on the bus or after school. We hope this gives you a little inspiration to run with this season. Be on the look out for a Valentine’s gift idea for your friends coming soon.
