Sprucing Up Seed Packets

May 21, 2015

There is something so romantic and nostalgic about an old, dusty book, isn’t there? Using books to decorate is one of the most effortless ways to add character and dimension to your space. Stacking them up on the mantle or displaying them on a serving tray are both tried and true ways to utilize them. However- when their shelf life has ended, finding a way to recycle them is important as well.

It’s simple to breathe new life into and repurpose old books that are falling apart. Turning them into a quick and simple craft makes a sweet, inexpensive gift. You can easily add these seed packets into a housewarming gift, wedding gift, or use them as party favors.

Use an old page to wrap the seed packet of your choice, hand stamp the name of the plant you’re wrapping, tie on some twine, and for a little color, add a sprig of greenery.

This would make the sweetest wedding favor, addition to thank you notes, or hostess gift. It’s personal while being simple and practical for those who love growing their own herbs or enjoy the natural beauty of wildflowers.

Remember to be respectful of your books and only use those that are falling apart and have little value. The main purpose of recyling is to take something that is unusable and give it a new purpose. Donating old books to local charities, libraries, or schools is also a great way to extend the lives of books as well. Enjoy!

What a cute idea. By the way I have to tell you that my husband and I enjoy your show so much. It is one of the few shows we watch together. You have really planted the bug in us to move from California. Well truthfully its been there for a while. We have family in Texas that have been trying to convince us for some time. And after watching your show we figure we could probably sell our current home and buy a fixer upper in Texas pretty much for the equity in our home. So thank you for getting our wheels spinning again. Oh and I may be falling in love with Waco :0)

This would be so cute adorning a wreath for example. Love your idea to reuse an old book. I Have real hard time taking old book apart. It has to be in really bad shape first. I get lots of hard back books at our local thrift shop for 50cents so will use one of those or buy book I don't want to read to use this way. Sure glad you shared this great idea. Happy weekend
